On Thursday, June 15, the Diocese of California will host a Pride Evensong at Grace Cathedral, beginning at 5:15 p.m. Just following the Evensong, hear the Rev. Kenneth Schmidt (rector at All Saints, San Francisco), the Rev. Vicki Gray (deacon at Christ the Lord, Pinole), Ron Johnson (long time parishioner at Grace Cathedral, San Francisco), and Sara Yoe (author of the project) talk about the early struggles for equality and dignity in the Diocese of California, the response to the AIDS epidemic, and how we keep equality and pride alive in the current Bay Area culture.
After that, the fun really heats up, and all are invited to a festive reception in the Dining Room. A friend of the Diocese of California, Marc Capelle, will be joined by Bebe Sweetbriar, a San Francisco drag queen who volunteers with Companions of Dorothy the Worker and St. Aidan’s, San Francisco. Other songs will be sung by…you! Now’s the time to get your singing voice ready to belt out a few showtunes – group numbers are especially encouraged! Adjacent to the dining room, memorabilia, photos, and other documents will be out on display in the library for all to browse.
Schedule: 5:15 p.m. (Evensong), 6 p.m. (panel), 7 p.m. (reception)
